My Special Easter Basket - The Last Supper
Wednesday
The Last Supper
(wine glass and bread)
Jesus knew that soon He would be leaving His friends and would die. He wanted those who loved Him to have a special way to remember Him. So the disciples and Jesus met together for a special meal called the Passover Seder. Everything in the meal had specific meaning and reminded those who ate it of the years their ancestors were slaves in Egypt and how God rescued them from slavery.
Read Mark 14:12-26
While they were eating, Jesus picked up the unleavened bread (matzah), thanked God for it and broke it into pieces. He passed it around for each disciple to have a piece, then said, “This is My body, broken for you. Do this and remember me.” Then Jesus took the third cup of wine (cup of redemption), thanked God for it and said, “This is My blood which is poured out for many. Do this and remember Me.” The Passover Seder that Jesus and His disciples had been celebrating all of their lives, suddenly took on new meaning. Jesus would be the Passover Lamb. His blood would protect those washed in it from death. In His sacrifice on the cross, we would find redemption.
The disciples still didn’t understand, but one day soon they would!
Today, Christians all over the world take part in Communion or The Last Supper, to remember Jesus’ sacrifice of His body and blood for us.
