My Special Easter Basket - The Cross
Friday
The Cross
(thorny crown, stick cross)
The soldiers marched Jesus away to the high priest and all the chief priests who tried to find some evidence against Him, but they couldn’t. Finally, they asked Jesus, “Are you the Chirst, the Son of God?” Jesus answered, “I am.” This made the high priest very angry. He tore the robe he was wearing and sentenced Jesus to death.
The soldiers made a crown of thorns and put it on Jesus’ head. They pushed so hard that the thorns pierced His skull. Then they made a cross out of wood and forced Jesus to carry it up to the place where they would crucify Him.
Read Mark 15:22-41
While it sounds like all of this was done to Jesus and He had no choice, it is important for us to understand that Jesus willingly laid down His life for all of us! Through His death on the cross, Jesus became the perfect sacrifice for all sins of all people for all time. When He said, “It is finished,” IT WAS FINISHED!
Christians refer to this day as Good Friday. It is a somber day, when we remember God’s good gift of salvation, while also remembering how horribly Jesus suffered, so that we don't have to.
Blessings,
